has anyone's lil one's had a ADENOIDECTOMY done? how long is the healing process and how much pain were they in after? TIA

stephensmommy --- 15 years ago -

mine did, but he had tonsil and tubes as well at the same time... i think the surgery took a total of 5 minutes for all three. my son took about 2 1/2 weeks but again its different bc he had tonsils too. i believe for just adnoids its probably about a week. they gave him an rx for a pain med that knocked him out and something to keep from getting infected.

TY they are planning on her tonsils too but said they had to wait till she was 3, not till march will she be 3.. not sure why though. He said she'd be out cold. Dr Gibbons is the dr at darnall and said her tonsils were too big for her and stopped her breathing during sleep. So he is doing adnoids and tubes only at least for now, surgery is on the 2nd!

good luck candy! Hopefully it helps her getting the surgery done.

i hope so she is loseing her hearing a slight bit in her left ear, dr gibbons said the surgery should help her hearing out. I just pray it dont get worse and gets better. I always thank it was a good odea to teach my kids to sign so Im glad she has that to help her out some right now!

thatsn strange, ive heard that before from someone but they did my sons at 2 in June and he didnt turn 3 til sept. thats exactly what my sons problem was. one night i woke up with a really bad feeling and checked on him and he had stopped breathing so i took him in the next day and surgery was a week later. this was off post though. maybe you can try to insist they do the tonsils now! whats the point of them doing 2 different surgeries? good luck with everything... btw before the surgery they may give her a drug too relax her before the anesthesia and they act nuts on it! mine is completely potty trained and he peed all over the place so pack pull ups or diapers

awesome advice thanks so much. They said they would give her a sedative before the "shot". They said her meds were going to go through an IV.

I am sure Dr Gibbons would be thrilled his name is coming out of your nasty mouth. Now the world knows who your kids doctor is. (( Claps hands)) you did it again. Wow seriously? im pretty sure we have ALL talked about drs not long ago when someone was askng about off post pediatrians and reg drs! so pretty much everyone here knows where everyones kids go to. that was just ridiculous. I dont know candy or what she did before, nor do i really care. she was asking a question concerning a surgery for her kid. i mean come on grow up at least a little

♥ Candy --- 15 years ago -

good night off to sleep

The Dr said no asprin products 2 weeks before and after the surgery, I hate giving the kids Tylonal because it tears up their tummys, what else can I give her if she has fever or feels bad?

stephensmommy --- 15 years ago -

i used to give mine these homeopathic fever reducing tablets... their made by the same people that make teething tablets. they would help spme but not as much as tylenol. i would try giving the tylenol and maybe some gaterade or pedialite to help out her tummy

♥ Candy --- 15 years ago -

good idea i didnt think of gaterade to help settle her tummy THANKS :) Im ganna try the tabs as well :)

stephensmommy --- 15 years ago -

i remembered another thing i did! the pain meds they gave my son for sfterwards were really nasty so i got an ice tray and bought some jello and made jello shots with the med in it ( not with alcohol lol) its a bit of a pain in the behind to get them out but maybe u can miake little shapes with cookie cutters and the individual dose in each shape. just a thought bc i know mine refused the med if it was by itself

♥ Candy --- 15 years ago -

good idea thanks :)
