Hello! We are pcsing to Fort Hood this summer. We have 3 children and are being told we qualify for a 4 bedroom. My daughter is efmp and requires single story housing. I'm finding conflicting info online. Which housing areas are the single story 4 bedrooms at? My husband is an e4 promotable and is slated to be attached to an aviation brigade. Are they nice housing, older housing? Also want to know about the medical pediatric services on post? We require a pediatric physical therapist, pediatric occupational therapist, and speech that has experience with dyslexia, along with a pediatric neurologist. Do they have these services on post? Or are we going to have to go off post? Also any information about the school systems on post would be great! How are they with IEP's? Basicslly any info would be great. Thanks!

Hi! Lots of questions in there, let me give this a shot at covering them all.

1) Housing: Single story 4 bedroom housing can be found in Montague & Kouma Villages at least. I'm thinking that there are maybe 2 or 3 more villages as well that will be able to suit your needs.
2) The medical care at Darnell Army Community Hospital was ok for some and not ok for others. Most of your child's services will most likely be referred to Scott & White Hospital in Temple as they deal better with the pediatric side of things. Temple, where Scott & White is, is about a 30-40 minute drive depending on traffic.
3) Post schools and IEPs. I home schooled my children but did have a friend who's child was special needs and the school did a really good job with the IEP.

From what I've seen online, those housing areas look nice. Are they? Are there any 4 bedroom single story housing areas to steer clear of? Are most of the housing areas new or renovated? Sorry to ask so many questions but the last place we were stationed at had horrible housing. We moved 3 times in 3 years. Once because of black mold, once because of bugs and floors falling in ( housing they ended up tearing down.) I just don't want a repeat of that lol

Hood's housing is hit or miss. There are new housing areas, some that are about 5 years old, some that are about 15 years old and some that are closer to 30 and need torn down. The 4 bedroom single story we lived in was in Montague and is in the 15 years old range and was very nice. Anything older than that is very obvious when you do a walk through before you decide if you want to take it or turn it down and get back on the waiting list.

I am from the area and we use to live in Chaffee, Commanche II and Walker Village when my dad was active duty army. Got the opportunity to live in Chaffee again back on 04-05 in a nice 3 bedroom on a corner. Killeen/Hood has grown over the years. I am almost 40 yrs old.
