My husband is finishing up drill sgt school n only has 2 more weeks, this week we should find out where we are going. My husband has only been stationed here except when in Korea or Iraq, but we have never PCSed before and my husband leaves it pretty much up to me to figure out what to do but I am lost. He says that we will clear base n housing in 2 weeks then headed to our next destination, but I have NO IDEA where to start or what to do. I have heard we have to do a partial ditty move bc we want the army to move our house hold goods but we have 2 dogs, and also 2 young children. SO this whole thing is going to be very stressful. ANY help or advice would be awesome!! Thank you so much in Advance!!!!

Go to this website:

http://www.militaryhomefront.dod.mil/

Scroll down the page, on the left side there will be a box that says "Plan my Move", click on that. There is a lot of useful information on that page to include phone numbers and address both here and at your next duty station.

You have a POA right? FIRST thing as soon as you have orders to to Transporation and the clearing brief at Copeland... if you can do the briefing they will input his SSN and automatically clear him from alot of stops on post. Everything else can be done pretty quick

I went through a class last week and they said that a lot of soldiers do not apply for DLA- Dislocation Allowance when they PCS. I have PCS'd 5 times and always gotten it. I believe it equals about 2.5 months of BAH.

DLA is the perdiem isn't it? I know my husband got that and if it is what I think it is the amount will vary per family.

the soldier gets so much for themselves for food/hotel per day then a little less for the spouse and a little less than that for each child, HOWEVER, the per day is for how many days the military allots for the move.

so between mileage for (USUALLY) 2 cars per family and the perdiem of food/hotel, it was about 1.5 months pay for us.

Also partial DITY'S or full DITY'S are optional. You have to move yourself and kids and pets yourself of course, and if you have anything you want to move that you are worried the movers will break then you weigh your car empty, then load it up and weigh it again. at the end of your move when you get to the new duty station you turn your packet with reciepts and weigh tickets in and get reimbursed about 6 weeks later.

you get part of the perdiem money up front and the rest when you turn your packet in and if you decide to do a full dity you will get some up front if you are renting a truck also. Hope this info helps but the best info is at the brief

I want to add that your husband may have to get a government travel card and they will give you the per diem to pay for that card. Usually they give you the per diem and call it a day. The card goes through Citi Bank which will appear on his credit report. We really did not want them to have him get this card since he is about to go on government travel and we are doing self credit repair (smh, it seems like when you are trying to fix things something else comes and breaks it). This card is for government use only.

No, DLA is different from travel pay which is at per diem rates.

You only get your travel per diem up front if you REQUEST it as an advance or partial advance.

Every PCS stateside to stateside is technically a partial ditty because you move your vehicles, pets, family and some Household goods (HHG). If you weight your vehicle empty and then load it up with items you are moving and weight it again you should get paid ditty costs for that weight of HHG movement, same thing goes for any trailer you may rent to move things you don't want to have to wait for the shippers to move.
