Well, I have made it to Fort Hood. I am supposed to have a house in McNair Village available to me this Friday. The only problem is I have heard nothing but bad things about it. I cant find any photos of the interiors and the outside looks eh, not great not terrible. Has anyone had experience with this area or currently live there? What is it like inside? The floor plans on the website make it look pretty spacious. I have been nervously looking at rentals in the meantime because of the less than shining reviews. What does everyone here think?

I'm not sure where that is located but I found it surprising that the housing office here doesnt let you see the house before you actually move in

THANK YOU!! I was thinking the same thing. I mean sure you can decline the house when it is offered, but I think it is awfully strange that you get put on a list for something you haven't seen.

i lived in chaffee which is very close to mcnair...not impressed. my village was horrible..spacious but they werent very good with keeping up with the maintenence on it. it was really old too. problems upon problems in my expierience. we were allowed to look at it AFTER the paperwork was done so really we didnt have a choice lol. good luck

Ive been in the McNair houses before to visit a friend. they are 2 story town houses with wooden floors. I personally thought they were ok, and my friend who lived in them didnt really have any complaints except the stairwell was so narrow they broke the crib coming up the stairs.

Also I was able to go and inspect the house that I was getting before I signed anything. I took the move in conditions list and looked over everything and then decided if I wanted it. It sucks that they don't let you look in til the day of, but Chaffee at least lets you look at it BEFORE you sign the lease.

haha not I...unless my dumba$$ ex just signed the papers and said the hell with it.

We lived in Chaffee when my dad was in back in the early 80s, that goes to show how old those houses are unless they did some renovations. We lived 2 streets down back in 04 from my old house. I knew the lady at the housing office so she hooked me up with a nice corner house without me even asking.

When they have you come in to sign the papers they will give you the key and tell you the address for you to do a walk thru. If you take the house and see anything that needs fixed you can tell them then. I defently would not sign before doing a walk thru.

LOL Sam think about this.....he was lazy so my guess is that he did just sign it and didnt write any of the problems down.

I dont need brand new, so I dont mind something a bit dated, but Im certainly worried about the complaints of mold people keep bringing up. I wish we had more time to find a house in town. How long are the leases? Im guessing a year.
