Ok, so we are moving again, soon, and we are looking into doing a partial dity. My question is to the ones that have done it before, how does it work? Is there a weight limit? Do they give you anything upfront or until you get to your next duty station? We didnt do any of this on our last PCS, which everyone should, because everyone loads up their cars, but we didnt know so this is new to us. I know you weigh your car empty and full, but that is pretty much it. TIA!

the weight limit is based on rank. so e4 gets 8k lbs total between dity and jppso move, e5 is 10k (those are the only 2 I know) and those are with dependents.

You can get DLA, TLE and Perdium up front if requested and yes you can get an advance on your 'estimated' dity weight. Just make sure that you don't go over your alloted total weight or you could be paying back the advance for the dity.

We have done two full dity's and one partial and I will NEVER have the army move us again. they broke so much of our stuff from negligence and just plain not caring.

Got it! My husband is a E-5 and I know they told him that it is best to get the partial dity at his next duty station instead of getting it up front because of the weight, if he goes over, he will have to pay the rest back.

We have been thinking of doing a dity move, but with 3 kids, it can be difficult. We moved everything into storage when he deployed and i went back home, and it was a PAIN. When we moved from Fort Hood to Fort Carson the army moved us and they broke my daughter's glider and her crib, but they reimbursed us.

I hope this is our last move, because i HATE moving!

Thanks! :)

Yeah they broke a few of our things and one of them was irreplaceable. My husbands grandfather passed away when he was like 12 or 13, but before he passed he made him this glass globe, hand blown bigger than a basketball and an inch thick all the way around in blue glass. They shattered it this last move. I about cried for him. It was one of the few things of his gpa's he owned.

the grill, art easel thats all replaceable and fixable....its the from the heart stuff that cant be fixed or replaced.

Where do you see 10k for a E5 its not its 9K unless the rules have changed i got the chart and all the papers here from my lovely meeting today which I wont be able to update at this time because the problem is getting fixed and well you wont believe what was found out prior to them moving my stuff there there was TWO SUV's in the moving truck they did not take that weight off my shipment because at my old base I had moved from one house to a other on post and my belongings did not even total the amount that they said I had and I had my papers to prove that then I moved from CAMPBELL to HOOD in less then 2 months and I do not think I got 5,000 additional pounds of junk in 2 months so we play the waiting game sorry Im still pissed forgive me all I can say is truly Im stress out will update when I find out more hopefully in 3 days we shall see

I have been told its 10k for e5 for about 3 years now but i havent seen a recent chart so it might have changed.

also anything they use for work (books, 1 whole computer, uniforms:pt and acus, class a's ect, gear) is all 'free weight' and should be labeled progear. Also if you homeschool or work then anything you use up to 500 lbs is considered spousal progear.

just make sure they do it right and label it all. the soldier gets unlimited amount of progear, spouse gets 500lbs.

Smelly,

you are right. someone gave me the wrong information.

so mimig your husband is allowed 9k lbs total, however make sure he separates all of his progear and you do the same so that it doesnt take up part of your weight allowance. I would also have them take it, that way you get paid more for your dity.

prior to them moving my stuff there there was TWO SUV's in the moving truck they did not take that weight off my shipment

thats crap. why the heck were there 2 suvs in the truck anyways?
