We have been told we could get into Pershing Park quickly. Anyone have any advice on that area? It would be in the warrant officer section....wherever that is. Thank you very much!

With the BAH you can get a much nicer place off post. Pershing Park is government housing but it is off post. So you will have to fight traffic at the gate either way. I would look for off post housing because you can get a house that is bigger and has a garage. The only place on post for his rank with a garage is New Wainwright and the wait for those is crazy. Good luck and Welcome.

Yes, our options were Wainwright and Patton Park. Both of which look like severe waits. There is a house they have said we could get into in Pershing...but so many people say stay away from Pershing. Hard to make a decision when opinions are at opposite ends of the spectrum! Thank you for your reply!!

Do you know what unit he will be in? I ask because if it's one that is near Clear Creek I would recommend moving to Copperas Cove or maybe out by the airport off of Clear Creek. They have a new housing development out that way. If it's near end of post by Fort Hood street then would look at Harker Hights for housing. Stay out of 99% of Killeen. The outside of Killeen is ok but anything close to post or down town is bad news. If you need any help just send me a message. You can always get on the wait list for Wainwright and live off post until you get it.

He will be in 1st Cav 4th division headquarters. But he will deploy relatively soon. The other thing is that I will be going to UMHB and I think Copperas Cove is even farther from UMHB. I don't know if I want to move once to move again when Wainright or Patton opens up. Pershing would be nice because the elementary school looks like it is rated pretty high, plus the kids could get after school care since I'm going to school. Looking at a house on Bachelor Button in Killeen. Not good area? Everyone you talk to sells their area as the best! : ) Thanks for your help!He is going to 4th Brigade, 1st cav.

I am from Killeen, stay off Rancier and any streets nearby. Especially the numbered streets. You want to be on the other side of the rail road tracks from Veteras Mememorial BLVD. Lake Rd and Westcliff area nearby Hay Branch elementary and Rancier Middle School is over there...the old Rancier Middle School is on Rancier but they built a new one many years ago. Harker Heights is nice pass HEB and Indian Trail. Willow Springs and Stan Schuluter Loop. Cove I like because it is quiet out there.

JMO If you are going to go to UMHB and he is deploying soon you might consider getting a place closer to the school and having him commute and possibly moving closer to the post when he gets home. Just an idea.
