I just found out I am pregnant!!!! Only about 6 weeks, I made an appt at Darnell and they said the first ultra sound wouldn't be till the third appt. I am a little concerned with an ultra sound that late, back home all my friends had ultra sounds at their very first appts. Does anyone know any off base clinics that are good with giving ultra sounds?

darnell is good with giving ultrasounds i had one on my first visit to see exactly how far along i was. and another on the second

I called and they said they do not give an ultra sound until the 3 rd appt

Dont worry about it. Most places dont give ultrasounds at all anymore until 20 weeks. They are cutting down big time on unnecessary ultrasounds because of Tricare cutting back. Most insurance companies will only pay for one your whole pregnancy. Where we are they wont give you one unless your high risk until 20 weeks also.

Thank you.! But noo that is not normal at all in any way! Most places give ultra sounds every 4 weeks. I called ob gyns in round rock and they all said that is un heard of that the first should for sure be at 7-8 weeks. Why would you go up until 20 weeks to even see if your baby is healthy !!!! Im either going to go off base I guess or pay a independent ultra sound center for them every 4 weeks

Congrats!

darnell will give you one earlier if it is needed. and with my son i hade 3 diffrent doctors and they all only did them at 2 weeks or earlier if neccessary. you dont need to have one every 4 weeks to see if your baby is alright

Regardless of what they said when you called, it's all up to the dr if they give you an ultrasound. I'm pregnant and get seen at darnall and I've had many ultrasounds in my first trimester .

Steph is completely right. Its all up to the doctor.I dont know who told you every 4 weeks is what most places do but they were wrong. It could happen but its not the norm. I was a nurse until health things came up and worked in an OB office for a while. We NEVER gave them that much unless there was a problem/high risk. No doctor in our surrounding area does that. If its medically necessary you will get one. Otherwise there is always paying to get one done. Most insurance companies only pay for one your whole pregnancy unless its medically necessary. That one is at 20 weeks. Good luck with your pregnancy.
