I will be moving to Ft. Hood in March from Germany. Before I call housing to get on a housing list, I was looking for some information and advice. Can anyone tell me if their is housing that has garages, I can only find pictures on line of houses with pull in carports. My husband is a E-7 and we are looking for a nice housing area. We have 2 kids and 2 dogs. I would like to live in new housing, something that was build within the last few years. Can someone recommed a housing area or would I be better off renting off post??

You would be better off living off post if you want that new. Montague Village on West Fort Hood has duplexes (maybe 15 years old) that are separated with garages in the middle of the 2 homes. E7s are in that area. There is also a new housing area they recently build on the north side of post, but I don't have much information about the area.
With Ft Hood Housing, you don't get to select which housing area you wish to reside in, you are shown whatever comes available first and then have the option to turn it down and get back on the waiting list if you want.
They are a Lend Lease run community and you can find information and floor plans on line but don't trust the rank and bedroom information. Our 4 bedroom for E5 in Montague was never shown online as are many of the other options.

The E-7 homes have a carport no garage. They don't have any new homes available for E-7 rank. The only homes they have with a garage for enlisted is for the CSM's and even some of them live in the same housing as the E-7's because the homes with a garage are very limited. The E-1 to E-5 get the new homes but again they don't have a garage. Even a good chunk of the officer homes only have a car port. You might want to look in to off post homes. Keep in mind though that the water bill can be very expensive. Also keep in mind his commute time, because the gait can be a nightmare going in and getting out at certain times.

Also can anyone tell me if most on post housing has fenced in yards?

Candy Jane --- 12 years ago -

All on post housing has fenced yards!
Most with 6ft high fences as well.... We lived on post for E-7 and didn't get to choose our home... We don't have kids so we didn't need a big home either so we were happy with our home.
Good luck and enjoy! We are finally done with the Army and moving away, back home!

Candy your husband got out as an e3 and last personality you had 2 kids. So how do you qualify giving someone with a question about e7 housing advise?? Not all yards on post have fences. It is sad when you have to lie and pretend to someone looking for answers before a pcs. Please just go away.

Candy Jane --- 12 years ago -

I meant E6 and I was pretty sure all on post housing had fences now. It's been 2 years since I've lived on post so I may be wrong!
And we had E7 and a E5 as neighbors!

Candy Jane --- 12 years ago -

And I do have two children and e got out as E5 not E3!! And I didn't have our kids home with us the last year we lived on post housing. They stayed in Florida with my mother in law due to all the BS going on with me on this site ad CL I felt is safer with them not around the drama!
Yes CPS was called but all were found untrue and they dropped the cases

Silverkitten --- 12 years ago -

Hold on... You mean to tell me that because of Hoodunderground you had to send you kids away and you had CPS involved? I am going to say my part and then walk away from this whole mess. If my family was ever in ANY danger because of something I or someone else said on a web page, I WOULD GET OFF THE WEB PAGE FOR GOOD! I would never go back and then I wouldn't have to worry. You also say he made E-6 in Iraq so why would he get busted to an E-5? No offense but you first said he was an E-7 but then when I called you on it you said E-6... I think I am going to side with LovinArmyLife in this one and say E-3 because she has not lied to me. How do you even confuse E-6 and E-7? It's not like E-7 is easy to make. You have to be an E-6 for more than a min. to make it. You don't just leave and E-5 and 12 months later you come home as an E-7. This is not Hollywood, those things don't happen in this day and age. Last of all why if you didn't want any drama did you tell everyone who you are? Why not just stay as TexasGal or what ever you name was and not let anyone know?

a1777264uu- Let me just say I am so sorry you have to see all of this. Please don't think this is what we are like here at Fort Hood. If you need any help Please message me and I will do all I can to help you out. Again, I am so sorry about all this.

No silver you have it all wrong, not because of this page alone. In fact this page and the ladies did their best to stop the drama, things were posted on CL and someone called to make sure things were okay at our home with the children! I sent them to my MIL because I was unable to leave with them while helping my husband discharge from active duty on Hood!
Ft hood is a wonderful place an I've made awesome friends, life long friends!
It's way too much to go into on here Silver I'm more than able to tell you in a private message what happened but as you said this isn't what this board is about

Candy Jane --- 12 years ago -

Silver I'm on my phone I meant to push 6 not 7 and I don't proof read before I posted and my husband is sitting here with me and he called me out too when he said I'm a "dummy" for pushing the wrong rank!
Mistakes happen!

Candy Jane --- 12 years ago -

Again, I'm not going to prove my husbands retired rank as it really isn the issue!
E5 is on our IDs.... Y'all have a good day I am preparing to go out of state and ready to move I have some packing to handle!
Good day ladies!!

And I am a size 2...

I'm not getting involved in the Candy drama except to say this:

Candy if you say what you want to say and keep it nice and friendly and not hide who you are, most of the drama will die down

To the OP: When I was at Hood, you had to rent the fences, some of the houses had them bc the people before never had them taken out either they had bought them and left them in or the company actually forgot that someone was renting them (yes that happened to a few people I knew). Granted I haven't been at Hood since May of 09 but from what I have heard from friends still there, it hasn't gotten any better.
