Hi, I haven't been on here in awhile as my life has been pretty nuts, but I trust you guys more than some random stranger on CL, so I figured it couldn't hurt to ask here. And trust me, I HATE having to ask anybody. I just can't deal with it anymore. My daughter came home from school with head lice. Yeah, you know where this is going? In the 4 or 5 times that I have spent HOURS on the floor treating her head, she gave it to me. I am pregnant, I can't use Rid, or anything. The prescription the doctor gave me is basically nothing but rubbing alcohol, and doesn't work for sh*t. Not only can I not use anything that might actually work, but I don't have anybody to treat my head. So I originally wanted to get a reverse bob, hoping it will at least help, but can't find a salon that will do it. My hair is halfway down my back... and I would be happy if I could just find someone to cut it shoulder length. I will be pregnant for at least 2 1/2 more months, and I am almost ready to buy a wig and buzz my head. I just can't take it anymore, and I was hoping that since most of you are probably moms, you'd understand...Or something. I'm more than willing to pay for it as long as it doesn't look like I got in a fight with a weed eater. Ugh, do you know how embarrassing it is to even ask?

hi! the stores/pharmacy should have an electric comb you can buy. it zaps lice dead without chemicals! I would cut your hair yourself to shoulder length, zap with the comb and then get to the salon so they can fix your hair correctly! good luck!

Really? They have that? That's awesome, thanks :D

Oh you poor girl. Those sweet days of school and head lice. Yep my kids got them every year. Those combs are great. And a word of advice for you, if you have girls keep there hair kinda short it is so much easier. And have you tried the new stuff with no chemicals? It is usually by the RID. Can't remember the name but it is great and it actually works.

Thanks :). Yeah, I have been inching her hair shorter and shorter. I'm thinking about taking it short enough that it won't go into a pony tail anymore. I put it up everyday, but by the time she gets home, it's pretty much fallen out, and I think that probably defeats the purpose of putting it up.

Try mayo or olive oil. Put it on and let it sit for at least a half hour under a shower cap. It feels horrible but works. My lil sis got it once at school and my mom said it worked. Its worth a try.

Large Amount 4 ounces Tea Tree Oil 25 ounces Dawn Dishwashing Liquid (Dawn ONLY) 8 ounces white vinegar Mix the three ingredients in a large squeeze bottle, such as an empty dish soap bottle. Use as regular shampoo, leave on for about 5 minutes before rinsing. Use conditioner to soften hair and keep dandruff down. Tea Tree Oil may cause some dandruff, but the bugs will be gone. May use every day, and bugs are usually gone within a week. Be VERY CAREFULL not to get in eyes or mouth. Use a nit comb to comb the nits out. The vinegar rinse will help loosen the nit glue. Good luck!

I heard that blue magic , "grease" that is used for ethic hair works ! I am black and I use oils in my hair and I have never had lice ... I hope everything works out for you !

Court3698 --- 15 years ago -

Thank you...I have tried vaseline too, but all that did was take a week to get the grease out. I'll try the other stuff though :)

olive oil works also.

That is terrible! I am so sorry you are having to deal with it, best of luck getting rid of it! I would cut your hair but people would probably point and laugh at you haha

LOL I can't cut hair to save my life either... don't feel bad! That's why I love my hairdresser here in NY. :)

I love my hair dresser in Maine, I also went to high school with her. She's going to do my hair when I go visit in Feb, can't wait, I'm looking for something new, course keep the length cause the hubby doesn't want me to cut it. I know tmi but he said he likes to hold onto it lol.
