Does Tricare prime cover ER visits? I drove from Ga to Sc where we got into a car crash and I took my newborn straight to the ER. I keep getting bills saying Tricare covered 100 dollars but we still owe 800 bucks! I seem to only get an auntomated system when I chose the "claims" option when calling. Any help?

You have to push 0 to talk to claims....they should have covered everything...

You will need to call your primary doctor and have them call Tricare for an authorization to cover those ER and urgent care expenses.

Always press 0 when calling those automated systems to get a live person.

I think automobile accident injuries are covered with your auto insurance. Didn't the ER ask for your auto insurance policy number? That's what happened when my daughter was in an accident. The ER visit was covered by our auto insurance, and the ambulance was paid by Tricare.

Tricare is probably denying it because it is on the burdon of the automobile insurance company to cover the medical costs related to an automobile accident. I'm honestly shocked they payed any on it.

I got into a car wreck a few months ago and Tricare wouldn't cover anything related to it.

wow such different ideas... i didn't even report it to insurance for the the auto place i first took it to said it was "totalled" and because the frame was bent in; it still ran so I refused to let it be "totalled" so I brought it to a friend who fixed it all up for 2,400. It doesn't even say what the ER visit is for except that they checked out my son, so they would not know if was as a result of a car accident (no papers say anything about a car accident). I'm just worried because it was about 200 miles from my old provider in GA. I thought they covered all ER expenses.

The way it was explained to me in Nov., when we were in our accident is that if your taken to military hospital that tricare will cover it and they will fight it out with the insurance company (still waiting for them to send the bill), but when you go in to the ER for a auto accident that is the way it is coded when they submit the charges. Even though the paperwork didn't state it. You need to contact your insurance company and let them know that you are receiving bills and hopefully they haven't closed your claim so the bills will be paid under your bodily injury insurance.

What did you tell them in the ER as to why you were there. It may not say in words that there was an automobile accident, but their billing codes could say something otherwise.

One of my surgeries done at Metroplex was billed with a wrong code, showing that my issue was a result of an "accident" (didn't say auto or anything) and I went through hell trying to get it all changed.

i was thinking about it, and the bill is NOT for me, my son who obviously is not on the car insurance. so this would not be covered??

He was a passenger so I cant imagine why it wouldnt cover him. Ours covers anyone whos on the vehicle with me.

Megz (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

Flffc is right car insurance covers all passengers so tricare is probably denying the claim bc its an auto insurance issue.
