hello, I have a question hopefully one of ya'll can help me out. I was added to the housing (waitlist) today and discovered via email they put us on a 5 bedroon waitlist, (which is LONG). I have 4 children. 12 year girl 13 year old girl 3 year old boy 6 year old girl. we have always lived in a four bedroom the younger ones share, Im so fine with that. sorry Im being so long winded lol question is can I accept a four bedroom or be put on the four bedroom waiting list (which is not so long) if I qualify for a 5 bedroom. suddenly I cant get ahold of anyone at housing to ask them directly.

Hi Kasey, by the Army Regulations and Texas State regulations, you are fine to accept a 4 bedroom house. Fort Hood Housing goes by a room for everyone concept if possible. Trying to get a hold of them by phone is usually very difficult, but keep trying and make the request if that is your wish...it is possible.

If you are E6 promotable or up and can wait for the five bedroom I would. Its so much bigger and nicer than most 4 bedrooms. I live in the 2 story 5 bedroom and everyone who has come over has commented how much more room there is in these houses.

I wish I could wait. I know Texas very well but not that area, I have heard such bad things about killeen and nearby areas.May just move over to georgetown and commute.Anyone know how traffic is?

well..... I got the bedroom thing sorted out and we can accept a 4 bedroom but will not EVER be able to upgrade unless family size changes! I can live with that. Now does anyone know anything about comanche11 housing area? We have been offered a home there, from the online pics they didnt seem very new, or updated, hard to tell really. what middle and elementary is in that area? any help would be great, thanks muchessss

I hated living on post, but some people really like it. Also not a big fan of Killeen, therefore I spend the majority of time shopping in Harker Heights, Temple, and Georgetown. On post, we signed a waiver saying that we understood the house was built before 1970 and that any health problems do to lead paint poisioning, housing could not be reliable for. One of many reasons I live off post.

yes this is pretty much what I have heard, I would love to live in georgetown, a little worried about hubbys comute though and very much wanting nothing to with killeen. Hoping to live on post for a year just enough time to get to know the area better and purchase a home but nervous about the schools in the mean time ft hood is part of KIS is that correct? and how are the schools on post?

belton is much closer than georgetown; you would probably like that better. the commute would be about 30-40 mins, depending on traffic. im not too familiar with the school system considering all my children are too young. Now is the time to get a house! They are predicting that the market value will fall even lower the next year!

thats what I hoping for, and I have heard good things about belton, I like the small town feel. Thanks for your help. who is master kara and what the heck are they talking about? lol

I try to ignore people that post things like that. she is from campbell underground. and we almost bought a house in belton. we go to the lake there every weekend anyway, so it would be worth the drive! some people like copperas cove, it has more of a small town feel, but harker heights and belton are my favorite. lol. everyone has there prefrences. belton is more of a "cleaner" feel in my opinion then killeen. killeen has a mall, but i do most my shopping at target and the centers in georgetown (tj maxx, dsw shoes, michaels, etc). it's all about perspective. good luck! sometimes you just have to come tour the towns yourself to find out what you like and don't like.
