So lets discuss how we feel about the policy being a thing of history! Who knows how this affects FRG membership!?

I feel that if they are good enough to fight and die for their country then they should be good enough not to have to hide who they are.

I am so glad we finally ended this and hope that eventually the FRG membership will increase through the inclusion of their loved ones.

I'm wishy washy. I totally believe in the rights and all for anyone who is willing to sign on that line.
On the other hand I also understand (slightly-because it's usually based on exaggeration, ignorance and intolerance) the views from the military men who eat, sleep, etc alongside their 'brothers'.

As for the FRGs, I don't think it will make too much of a difference unless the partner wants to lead the FRG. The Commanders' Partner just doesn't family friendly in the sense we are used to.

well, it's not just men who are gay, of course. I'm sure I used a community shower more than once in my training, our military is volunteer, so I feel, what does it matter. However, I do feel that there is a responsibilty to each individual to be smart, for thier safety and thier career.

Wishy Washy. I think gays deserve the same rights as straights. My best friend just married his partner on the beginning of September. Why should there love be any different then my love for my husband?

But I do worry that it will cause more issues for them in the military. People interpreting things wrong because now they know they are gay. Things that they would do or say before everyone knowing would now be looked on as something totally different. Also it being a distraction. Why should it matter in any line of work what your sexual preference is?

I understand the worry about safety for the gay/lesbian forces, however, I have done many a paper on this exact topic the past year and a half for school because it is such a hot issue. In studies that have been done in the past decade for police forces, fire departments, ect that have had the same issue, the majority of the workers who were gay/lesbian still did not disclose their sexual preferences because they felt it was a private issue.

My thought on it was that they should not have to hide, if they want to share that about themselves then so be it, but it should be their choice, not someone elses

my exact words when i read the topic and like some said...about the safety issue and things being taken the wrong way...in a perfect world everyone treats everyone with the same amount of respect but we all know that doesnt happen and i feel that with people being honest with who they really are...theres going to be more "bullying" and "finger pointing" for them having the same sex partner.

personally....if i was a soldier, i would rather have them be open about their sexuality then to hear rumors of it. and i wouldnt look at it differently if a gay man/woman saved my life in a battlefield vs a straight man/woman. we are all there for one reason, and one reason only.
